PREFACE
I am a big believer in learning by doing. However, before
learning how to do anything, one must know what to do. As
opposed to some books in the market on case analysis which
propose that reading transcripts of actual case interviews does
not help, I believe that they do. For this to happen, the
transcripts should be in-depth and well-structured, yet
palatable to read and grasp.
The solved cases, which are in Socratic dialogue format,
showcase what a real case interview is actually like. Going
through these cases and analyzing them will help any student
of business muster the necessary confidence to crack real
business cases in job interviews. These solved cases
demonstrate what a consultant / MBA student must do in a
case interview, and how he should go about doing it. A lot of
practice cases have been provided for additional interviewing
practice with a friend or classmate.
What started out as a simple exercise of creating value for
MBA students desirous of bagging coveted marketing /
consulting jobs has turned into a book which has value for
practicing consultants, business owners, and corporate
executives as well. Initially, I was offering the manuscript to
MBA students for free through Franteractive’s business
strategy portal
(www.franteractive.net).
The student only
needed to mail me a transcript to prove that he was indeed a
business student. As the manuscript became bigger and
bigger, I started charging a small price, and removed the
restriction which required that the buyer mail me a transcript.
Soon, along with MBAs, business executives, and CEOs /
CTOs also started buying the book.
