Prospectors are businesses with a pro-active, and offensive strategy. They agressively pursue new market opportunities with a willingness to take risks. The maintain an entrepreneurial attitude. Typically, prospectors' goals including developing new product and market opportunities.

Typically, prospectors have fairly broad product lines that focus on product innovation and market opportunities. Some product lines fail while others succeed. In the year 2010, as web 2.0 matures, TV Stations / Networks can be argued to be defenders in the media advertising space; with Google / Facebook as the prospectors.
